The Tongue of a Bettor

Try tricking other amateurs with this slang and make them think you are a pro. They will not be delighted to hear you say words of an acclaimed (fake bettor). But the bluff aside, this will enrich your knowledge and be a better poker player.

Before you can sit down on a gaming table, a certain amount has to be paid. This is called buy-in. It could also mean the money you have when you first sat down on the game table. The sum of all your chips is called stack. The stack is also referred to as one's bankroll.

If your chips are less than another players' chips, it is called short stack. If you have lost all your chips during calls and bets in a game, it is called all-in. If ever one's stack is less than the call, a side pot may be placed. An extra pot amounting equal or double of the blind is called a straddle. The money brawled over by players is called the pot. The money contributed by each player at the start of the game is called ante. The money placed into the pot during the game is called bet.

If you want to bet you may post. But this kind of putting a bet is forced as with blinds. If you are used to saying raise, try bump; it means the same thing. Action could also be used to mean to bet. Other terms used to mean a raise is kick it. But if you care betting the smallest possible bet, it is a limp. If you are matching the bet made by another player, it is termed a call.

If you call the last raise permitted, it is called cap. Others call it capitola or cappuccino. If two players rival the pot it is called a heads up. If the winners are tied, the pot is said to be split between these two players. A toke refers to money given to the dealer by a winner; it's usually small and came to be called a tip.

A house may set up a bonus, a jackpot as it is called, to a player holding a good hand gets defeated by a better hand. This jackpot can be awarded if the loser has a full house of aces and still got beaten. The dealer takes the money for the jackpot from the pot. This is called a rake. The rake is usually ten per cent of the pot. If you have a bad hand and want to escape from the game, you fold.

Now that's a whole lot to terms to remember.
