Investigating Poker Chips
There may be hundreds and hundred of online poker sites selling poker chips. With many online poker sites to choose from the decision which one to buy poker chips from becomes hard. This article is a guide whether to buy the cheap poker chips made in China or go for those pricing five to ten times that.
While looking around online poker sites selling poker chips, try the ones that offer a sample of the poker chips before making a purchase. When the poker chips arrives at your doorstep subject them to a few tests to decide if this is the one you really need.
Some poker chips have some gold embedded in them. For the gold to stick on the poker chips, gold is stamped hot. When gold is in the poker chip, you will see it in the letters. Those poker chips with gold in them have the text in gold. To assess if it is real good rub the lettering or poke it with a knife or fingernail. Fake ones will easily be removed.
Check the sticker or the label at the center of the poker chips. Such graphics is called the inlay labels. On the sample poker chips try to remove the inlay label with your bare hands or with the use of a knife or any sharp object. Scratch the label, do anything physical to try removing the label. Determine if the inlay of the poker chip is easily removed. This test determines if the poker chip can withstand prolonged use. Try soaking it overnight and see of the sticker is peeled in the morning. This is to see if wet hands can easily damage the poker chip.
When you are done with the face of the poker chip try the edges. Some poker chips have a sharp edge while some might be soft. To check poker chip edge quality, try smashing it with each other. See if a dent or mark appears. Even poker chips of good quality get dented and mark when crashed with another object but not to the point that the poker chip is heavily crippled. With poker chips that are made of clay have edges which are quite soft and will leave a deep mark when manipulated.
Next test the stacking ability of the poker chips. Will the stack fall down with a few pieces piled on top of each other? To test this ability, try piling 15 or more poker chips. The all-clay poker chips stack better than those made of clay composite. The plastics have very poor ability to be stacked; they slip over.
Again, in buying poker chips have a critical eye on each single chip. Ask yourself if they are properly done? Are the poker chips durable? Can they be stacked high enough without slipping? Only when you get satisfying answers on these questions should you lay down your money.
